Policing in Puerto Rico works differently from the mainland. The Puerto Rico Police Bureau (Negociado de la Policía de Puerto Rico) is a single island-wide force organised into regional commands, and it is the primary agency almost everywhere. Municipalities may additionally run their own policía municipal, which complements it rather than replacing it.

Municipal contacts
Municipal police departments in Puerto Rico do not consistently publish a direct non emergency line. What every municipality does publish is its city hall switchboard, which is the route to reach the policía municipal. The numbers below are city hall numbers from the official government directory, and we list them as exactly that.

We do not publish a municipal police number we have not been able to verify against an official source. Several directory sites list direct numbers for these departments; we could not confirm them on any government website, so they are not here. An unverified emergency contact is worse than no contact.
Which one should I call?
For anything urgent, call 911. For a non emergency matter, the Puerto Rico Police Bureau switchboard above is the reliable island-wide route. Call the municipality directly when the matter is municipal — local ordinances, traffic and parking within the town, or municipal property.
